“C’era una volta” (Once upon a time)

The “once upon a time” project was born from the desire of the AEM Foundation and the Le Altre Note ETS Association to bring the younger public closer to the world of art and music through specifically designed and created projects.

The project consisting of four events began last March 27 with a first event held at the AEM Foundation auditorium with music by Berio and Prokofiev.

Opus Number Zoo

For wind quintet, it is a short occasional work written in 1951 for a young audience and revised in 1970. The four pieces that compose it each correspond to a text read by the musicians, individually or together or by an actor. The four poems, which tell stories of animals, are by Rhoda Levine.

Peter and the Wolf

The famous Fairy Tale by Prokofiev with the Spiritum Wind quintet and reciting voice.
Peter and the Wolf, whose text is by Prokofiev himself, is a real fairy tale, one of those that fascinate every child and are remembered forever, even when you become an adult. Each character in this fairy tale is represented by a musical theme and an instrument of the ensemble, according to the most natural combinations: the chirping bird is characterized by the flute, the duck by the oboe, the cat by the clarinet, the grumpy grandfather by the bassoon, the fearful wolf by the horn, the protagonist Pierino by all the instruments. The narrator tells the tale and in parallel the music comments on it, with a quantity of sound images often more vivid and precise than any words, such as the rapid climbing of the cat or the faint and tragicomic lament (“painful” says the score) of the duck in the belly of the wolf. The tale ends with a small triumphal procession of Pierino and his friends, which gives Prokofiev the opportunity to quickly re-listen to all the main themes of this enchanting composition.
