Professor at the Real Conservatorio Superior de Música de Madrid, he regularly teaches in master classes at the Royal Academy of Music of London. In 2000, in presence of H.M. the King and Queen of Spain, he offers a recital for the opening of the Chillida-Leku museum invited by the famous artist. He is a teacher of the Youth Orchestra of the Wagner Festival in Bayreuth.
As a soloist, he made his debut in London in 1994, playing Elgar’s concerto under Lynn Harrell’s conducting. Ever since, he has been soloist with orchestras as London New Sinfonia, Northern Chamber Orchestra, Saint Petersburg Hermitage Chamber Orchestra, Royal Academy Orchestra, Orquesta Sinfónica de Ciudad Real, Real Orquesta Sinfónica de Sevilla, Orquesta Filarmónica de Málaga, Noth Czech Philarmonic, Orquesta de Castilla y León o la Orquesta Nacional de Panamá, playing concertos such as Haydn, Boccherini, Nin-Culmell, Dvorak, Tchaikovsky, Beethoven or Rodrigo amongst others.
He has offered chamber music recitals in Europe, Asia and America, working closely to composers like G. Ligeti, JM. Sánchez-Verdú, G. Kúrtag or C. Halffter, in Festivals as Salzburg, Peralada, Prague, León, Otoño Soriano, Osaka and Edimburgh.
Prestigious spanish composers as E. Guimerá, M. Del Barco, T. Aragüés, I. Bagueneta, P. Halffter o C. Perón dedicated compositions to Iagoba Fanlo.
Iagoba Fanlo has been principal in the European Union Youth Orchestra,Radio Televisión Española working with composers as CM. Giulini, M. Rostropovich, B. Haitink, K. Sanderling, G. Prêtre, R. Norrington y Colin Davis, recording with Phillips Classics, E.M.I. and Virgin.
As Artistic Director of the Spanish National Cello Competition “Florián de Ocampo”, has recently been appointed Associate of the Royal Academy of Music of London.
He started to learn cello with his father, E. Fanlo Altuna in his native San Sebastián (Spain). Continuing his studies with D. Strange in the postgraduate course of the Royal Academy of Music of London and with W. Boettcher at the Hochschule der Kunste in Berlin, he obtains in 1998 the KonzertExam Diploma.
He has been principal cello at the European Union Youth Orchestra, Spanish Radio Symphony Orchestra and the Nagaokakyò Chamber Orchestra conducted by C-M. Giulini, M. Rostropovich, B. Haitink, K. Sanderling, G. Prêtre, R. Norrington and Colin Davis.
